Welcome to Kerenschool!

Hello teachers,

We are preparing ourselves for a new school year. And our goal is to make it a even better year than last year. Let's take this opportunity to think about what is already going well (good practise) and what can we learn from each other.

A -Take a step back in time. How where you instructed as a student yourself? Was it effective? If it was effective, explain why. If it was not effective, explain why.
Can you remember your favourite teacher. What made that teacher a 'good teacher'? Do you want to be like him/her? What good qualities can you apply yourself as a teacher?

B -Think about your training to become a teacher. What do you remember that was important enough to implement it in your lessons even still today?

C- You may have worked at different schools before coming to Kerenschool. Every school has it's good things and not so good things. Think of the 'good things' (good practise) you have learned. Is it possible to use those 'good practises' at Kerenschool as well? Are you already doing that?

D- Think about your time here at Kerenschool. Think about previous orientation sessions.  Think about training sessions that has been given to you. Or, think about what you have seen other teachers doing. What skills/attitude have you already developed?

2. Tell the other members of your group what you have discovered.

Tell the groupmembers what you really apply in your classes. If without any notification someone would walk into your class while you are teaching, what will they observe? What will they see you doing?

3. Now here is the challenge:
As a small group, write down all the different things you have come up with on a list. Devide the items on this list among the teachers in your small group and prepare a short 'explanation talk'. Maximum speaking time is 90 seconds .
Go to https://flipgrid.com/0u4h7vs and whatch the short clip I've uploaded there. In this clip I will explain how to record en upload the clips.

Record and upload your own 'good practise'-clip using Flipgrid before May 27th 10 o'clock pm.

Once approved by me (Miss Elisabeth) the videos will be available for you all to watch. If everybody contributes we will reach our goal to collect as many different 'good practise 90 seconds talks' as possible.

4. As soon as the clips are approved by me you can go ahead and start watching them. As you watch, write down the 'good practise' you are interested in to learn. Select 2 or 3 skills and write them down.

Give that list to your headteacher and discuss how you will learn to do this. For example; Plan a date and time with a teacher who has mastered that 'good practise'. Visit his/her class and write down observations. Observationpoints can be:

 - What do you see the teacher doing.
- How do the students respond.

After your observation of this class, sit down with that teacher and/or your headteacher and come up with a plan for yourself to practise this 'good practise skill' as well.

After some time, show your headteacher you have mastered that skill and move on to the next skill on your list. Repeat the steps given above to make a proper plan.

How many skills will you develop this year?
